A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Rev. Steven Ostendorf graduated from John Curtis Christian School and subsequently received a B.A. degree in 1993 from Louisiana State University. After several years of working as a nursing home administrator, he felt called to ordained ministry and attended Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he received a Master of Divinity degree in 2002. After serving as a Chaplain for LutherCare in both Lititz and Columbia, Pennsylvania, he was called to his first parish pastorate at Grace United Church of Christ in May of 2004. He is the father of two children: Addison (Addie) and Luke. In his spare time, Pastor Steve enjoys spending quality time with his family and extended family.

Fairy Flickinger – Organist

Fairy was born and raised in Taneytown. She attended the Taneytown schools and graduated from the high school in 1952. During that time she studied piano, organ violin and voice. She attended Western Maryland College where she graduated in 1956 with a BS degree in Music-education with a piano minor.  Fairy then taught music in the Carroll County Schools for 12 years and for another 18 years she was a Media Specialist. During that time, she studied at Western MD, University of MD and Peabody.

Fairy has been a church organist since 1955. During that time she was the organist at St. John’s Methodist Church in Hampstead, Trinity Reformed/UCC Church in Hanover, PA, Taneytown Presbyterian Church and Grace United Church of Christ, where she is currently serving. She has substituted as organist in numerous churches in the area.

In 1957 Fairy married Robert Flickinger. He was serving in the Army and they lived in Warrenton, VA for the 1st year of their marriage. They have 2 children-Judy Flickinger Greenholt and Blaine Flickinger and 3 grandsons-Keith Greenholt, Kyle Greenholt and Sean Flickinger.

Fairy represents the Taneytown area on the Carroll County Commission on Aging, is a member the the Republican Women’s Club of Taneytown, a member of the Heritage Committee and also serves as a docent-librarian at the Taneytown History Museum.

Sarah Larson – Music Director

Sarah was born and raised in Northampton, PA where she attended Zion Stone UCC as a child. After completing her undergraduate studies in Music at West Chester University, she moved to Baltimore to attend Peabody Conservatory. During this period she was hired to sing as a soloist and with church choirs in the Philadelphia and Baltimore areas. Sarah received a MM in Voice from Peabody in 2003. She is classically trained and has performed with professional opera companies in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Des Moines. Currently, Sarah is a member of the faculty at Seton Keough High School where she directs the A Cappella, Concert, Gospel and Hand Bell Choirs. She gives private voice instruction through Seton Keough as well as from her home in Westminster. Since becoming members of Grace UCC, Sarah and her husband Joe welcomed their daughters, Aubrie and Sage, into the family. They are grateful to have found a wonderful church home at Grace Church.
